GETTING TO KNOW THE MUSIC GENRES...

    💀 METAL:

“The extreme side of music, which encompasses a myriad of subgenres and showcases a wide range of diversity and talent within the realm of extreme music. It also constitutes one of the most significant countercultures of our time.” Music Blood

    Learn more about METAL...

Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats and loudness. 🤘 ROCK:

“The most CLASSIC side of contemporary music that has transcended generations and will undoubtedly continue to do so” Music Blood

    Learn more about ROCK...

Rock music is a genre of popular music that originated in the United States as 'rock and roll' in the late 1940s and early 1950s, developing into a range of styles from the mid-1960s, primarily in the United States and United Kingdom. It has its roots beginning as classic rock and roll, a style that drew from the African-American musical genres of blues and rhythm and blues, as well as from country music. Rock also drew strongly from genres such as electric blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz and other styles. Rock is typically centered on the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with electric bass guitar, drums, and one or more singers.

Usually, rock is song-based music with a 4/4 time signature and using a verse–chorus form; however, the genre has become extremely diverse. Like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political. Rock was the most popular genre of music in the U.S. and much of the western world from the 1960s up to the 2010s. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_music

    👍 POP:

“The most ‘POP-ULAR’ side of music, encompassing a myriad of subgenres and musical styles that continue to reinvent the liveliest and most ‘POPsitive’ aspects of music to this day” Music Blood

    Learn more about POP...

Pop music, or simply pop, is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form during the mid-1950s in the United States and the United Kingdom. During the 1950s and 1960s, pop music encompassed rock and roll and the youth-oriented styles it influenced. Rock and pop music remained roughly synonymous until the late 1960s, after which pop became associated with music that was more commercial, ephemeral, and accessible.
Identifying factors of pop music usually include repeated choruses and hooks, short to medium-length songs written in a basic format (often the verse–chorus structure), and rhythms or tempos that can be easily danced to. Much of pop music also borrows elements from other styles such as rock, hip hop, urban, dance, Latin, and country.
The terms popular music and pop music are often used interchangeably, as the former also describes all music that is targeted for mass appeal (compare art music) and includes many disparate styles. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_music

    🔥 LATINO:

“The HOTTEST side of music—the world’s most popular dance genres—can be found in this great GENRE, which includes genres such as SALSA, MERENGUE, REGGAETON, and many more.
Latin music spans from countries identified as Latin to Latin artists who have brought their hot sounds to other parts of the world.
CLARIFICATION: LATIN music is NOT a primary MUSIC GENRE; it is listed as a primary category for quick identification, but it encompasses many genres, each with a large number of representatives.

    Learn more about LATINO...

Latin music (Portuguese and Spanish: música latina) is a term used by the music industry as a catch-all category for various styles of music from Ibero-America, which encompasses Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and the Latino population in Canada and the United States, as well as music that is sung in either Spanish or Portuguese. It may also include music from other territories where Spanish- and Portuguese-language music is made. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_music

    🤙 HIP HOP:

“The side with the most RHYTHM and style, encompassing a broad cultural movement, featuring a fashion and art style that has come to blend with popular culture everywhere—RAP is its musical genre.”

    Learn more about HIP HOP...

Hip-hop (also known as rap music or simply rap) is a genre of popular music that emerged in the early 1970s alongside an associated subculture in New York City. The musical style is characterized by the synthesis of a wide range of techniques, but rapping is frequent enough that it has become a defining characteristic. Other key markers of the genre are the disc jockey (DJ), turntablism, scratching, beatboxing, and instrumental tracks. Cultural interchange has always been central to the hip-hop genre; it simultaneously borrows from its social environment while commenting on it.

The hip-hop genre and culture emerged from block parties in ethnic minority neighborhoods of New York City, particularly the Bronx. DJs began expanding the instrumental breaks of popular records when they noticed how excited it would make the crowds. The extended breaks provided a platform for break dancers and rappers. These breakbeats enabled the subsequent evolution of the hip-hop style. Many of the records used were disco due to its popularity at the time. This disco-inflected music was originally known as disco rap and later described as 'old-school hip-hop'. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip-hop

    🎤 RAP:

“The STREET side of music, combined with the broad cultural movement of HIP HOP—a musical genre rooted in street life” Music Blood

    👊 HARDCORE:

“The POWERFUL and compelling side of music—more than just a genre, it’s a way of life” Music Blood

    🎸 INDIE:

“The ‘INDEPENDENT’ side of music—a genre that has evolved into a major genre in its own right, featuring unique styles and melodies, and bringing together great talents who redefine and push the boundaries of the most popular genres in music” Music Blood

    Learn more about INDIE...

An independent music scene is a localized independent music-oriented (or, more specifically, indie rock/indie pop-oriented) community of bands and their audiences. Local scenes can play a key role in musical history and lead to the development of influential genres; for example, no wave from New York City, United States; Madchester from Manchester, England; and grunge from Seattle.
Indie scenes are often created as a response to mainstream or popular music. These scenes are created in opposition of mainstream culture and music and often contribute to the formation of oppositional identities among individuals involved in the scene. 🌴 REGGAE:

“The SOFT side of music, with all the good vibes of its sounds, has reached even the most remote places, spreading its ONE LOVE to the whole world (related to the Rastafarian religion originating in Jamaica)” Music Blood

    Learn more about REGGAEs...

Reggae (/ˈrɛɡeɪ/ ) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also refers to the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. The 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals titled 'Do the Reggay' was the first popular song to use the word reggae, effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. 🎧 ELECTRONIC:

“The GROOVY and ‘ELECTRIC’ side of music—the genre that currently dominates dance floors around the world—with performances ranging from the biggest festivals to the most unconventional venues” Music Blood

    Learn more about ELECTRONIC...

Electronic music broadly is a group of music genres that employ electronic musical instruments, circuitry-based music technology and software, or general-purpose electronics (such as personal computers) in its creation. It includes both music made using electronic and electromechanical means (electroacoustic music). Pure electronic instruments depend entirely on circuitry-based sound generation, for instance using devices such as an electronic oscillator, theremin, or synthesizer: no acoustic waves need to be previously generated by mechanical means and then converted into electrical signals. On the other hand, electromechanical instruments have mechanical parts such as strings or hammers that generate the sound waves, together with electric elements including magnetic pickups, power amplifiers and loudspeakers that convert the acoustic waves into electrical signals, process them and convert them back into sound waves. Such electromechanical devices include the telharmonium, Hammond organ, electric piano and electric guitar. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_music

    🎼 CLASSIC GENRES:

“The most HISTORIC aspect of all music is NOT a musical genre; it is a term that encompasses three major genres: JAZZ, BLUES, AND CLASSICAL MUSIC.
All three genres are VERY PREDOMINANT today, but sometimes there isn’t enough information available about them; for this reason, we group them together as ‘CLASSIC GENRES.’” Music Blood

    Learn more about CLASSIC GENRES...

JAZZ Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, hymns, marches, vaudeville song, and dance music. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz

BLUES Blues is a music genre and musical form that originated among African Americans in the Deep South of the United States around the 1860s. Blues has incorporated spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads from the African-American culture. The blues form is ubiquitous in jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll, and is characterized by the call-and-response pattern, the blues scale, and specific chord progressions, of which the twelve-bar blues is the most common. Blue notes (or 'worried notes'), usually thirds, fifths or sevenths flattened in pitch, are also an essential part of the sound. Blues shuffles or walking bass reinforce the trance-like rhythm and form a repetitive effect known as the groove. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blues

CLASSICAL MUSIC Classical music generally refers to the art music of the Western world, considered to be distinct from Western folk music or popular music traditions. It is sometimes distinguished as Western classical music, as the term 'classical music' can also be applied to non-Western art musics. Classical music is often characterized by formality and complexity in its musical form and harmonic organization, particularly with the use of polyphony. Since at least the ninth century, it has been primarily a written tradition, spawning a sophisticated notational system, as well as accompanying literature in analytical, critical, historiographical, musicological and philosophical practices.
